Swan Hill headspace a fantastic outcome

Swan Hill Rural City Council is thrilled with today’s announcement that Swan Hill will be one of the next locations to have a headspace centre.

Federal Minister for Health Peter Dutton announced the new locations earlier today, with headspace saying that the Swan Hill centre is expected to open by early 2016.

Swan Hill Rural City Council Mayor Les McPhee said the announcement was the result of hard work and lobbying by lots of people in lots of local health and youth agencies.

“The agencies that deliver mental health services for young people in the Swan Hill region have been working together to better meet the needs of the community,” Cr McPhee said.

“Lobbying for increased awareness about youth mental health services in the region, and for access to a centre like this, has been going on for several years,” he said.

“We are really pleased that Swan Hill has been named as one of the next headspace sites and are excited about what services the centre will offer to our region’s young people.

“We look forward to receiving more detail about the centre soon.”

There are now 70 headspace centres throughout Australia. Swan Hill was one of 15 new centres announced today.

The primary focus of headspace is the mental health and wellbeing of young people aged 12 to 25.
